“My friend gives me advice I didn't ask for and acts superior”

What could be going on

One-up, one-down: grandiosity and shame (Terry Real): Fits if they relate from above, needing you below to feel okay.

Moral superiority: Check whether they cast themselves as the better person generally.

You feel small or stupid around them: If you feel small with them, notice it; it says something about the dynamic.

Compulsively rescues: A milder cause: they may compulsively fix; check if they help unasked with everyone.

Communal narcissism: Could be grandiosity through being seen as helpful or wise.

Questions to carry

  1. What had I just told my friend about, the last time the advice came?
  2. Hearing the advice, how small or big do I feel, and what do I want to say?
