“My boss blames me for everything that goes wrong”

What could be going on

One person is blamed for everything: Fits if blame lands on you regardless of who was involved.

Scapegoating: Fits if blaming you lets the boss or team avoid their own failure.

Projection: Fits if they accuse you of exactly the faults they show.

Displacement: Fits if the blame comes after pressure from their own boss.

Family roles (golden child, scapegoat, lost child, mascot): Check whether you have been the blamed one before, in family or past jobs.

Organisational justice: Check whether the process for judging mistakes is fair and applied to everyone.

Questions to carry

  1. The last time something went wrong, how fast did the blame come, and who else was involved?
  2. When the blame lands, what do I start doing to prove myself?
