Spiritual talk used to avoid conflict

You raise a problem and they say 'it's all perfect as it is' or 'I'm choosing not to engage with that energy', and the issue stays unresolved.

Rule out first

Genuine equanimity that still handles practical problems. A real practice that has changed how they react. Community norms of speech.

What could explain it

Cognitive reappraisal: They're calm, but they still deal with the problem; the reframe changes how they feel, not whether they act.

Spiritual bypassing: The language arrives exactly when anger, grief or need would otherwise show; the practical issue never gets addressed.

Enneagram Type 9: Peacemaker: Peace at any price; they'd say anything to avoid friction, and the spiritual language is one tool among many.

Inflation (ego inflation): They speak from above, as if beyond ordinary feelings; disagreement is treated as your lower level of consciousness.

High-control groups and thought reform: The phrases are borrowed from a teacher or group and used to shut down doubt or criticism of that group.

A next move

Ask what, practically, they'll do about the issue. A concrete step means real equanimity; another abstraction means bypassing; condescension means inflation; defence of the group means group control.

If it’s you

Is my calm about this something I've worked through, or something I've stepped over?
