Behaviour · Conflict and anger

Pleases everyone, never says no

They agree to every request, tell each faction what it wants to hear, and are quietly overloaded.

Rule out first

A junior role where saying no is risky. Genuine flexibility and capacity. A culture of deference.

What could explain it

Agreeableness: Easygoing and kind, but when it matters they can say no without falling apart.

People-pleasing: Over-commits, then quietly resents it; disappointing anyone feels worse than burning out.

Fawn response: Appeasement tracks threat: it's strongest with angry or powerful people and eases with safe ones.

Approval-seeking/recognition-seeking schema: Their stated views shift with the room; ask them alone and you get a different answer.

Enneagram Type 9: Peacemaker: Not anxious, just absent: ask what they want and they genuinely struggle to locate it.

A next move

Make a request they ought to refuse and watch. A clean 'no' means a healthy trait; 'yes' with private resentment means pleasing; 'yes' with visible fear means fawn; 'yes' with a shrug means they've lost track of their own wishes.

If it’s you

When I say yes, what am I afraid of if I say no?
